  I am horrified that Our Lady of Guadalupe Mural remains imprisoned and hidden behind a white wall and turned into a broom storage closet for no other reason than the arbitrary prejudice of pastor Benito Hernandez against ethnic/indigenous sacred art such as this one that served so well the spiritual and cultural identity needs of the predominantly Hispanic Community of this parish for close to 30 years. How is it that the pastor of this church would do such desecration ignoring the hundreds of years of the well-documented relationship of the Catholic Church and its artists as aesthetic mediators of the spirit life of its followers.
  This close relationship between the Church and its artists and their creation of sacred art was validated and re-affirmed by Pope Benedict in his widely publicized "ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI MEETING WITH ARTISTS" Saturday, 21 November 2009. This address is available in its entirety on the Net. I would hope that pastor Benito Hernandez would read this address and recognize the need to tear the wall down to disclose and restore this fine specimen of sacred art and, in this manner honor the Church's long established relationship with the arts and the tenets of PONTIFICAL COMMISSION AND COUNCIL FOR THE CULTURAL GOODS OF THE CHURCH, created by His Eminence Pope Benedict XVI entrusted with "the task of overseeing the animation of the activities that are carried out by the Church to mark the safeguarding, CONSERVATION, use and production of cultural goods."
